Narrative Text

Definition:
*        Narrative text is a story with complication or problematic events and it tries to find the resolutions to solve the problems.
Social purpose:
*       To amuse or entertain the readers with actual or imaginary experience in difference ways.
Generic Structure:
*       Orientation: introduces the characters of the story, the time and the place the story happened (who or what were involved in the story, when and where).
*       Complications: a problem arises and followed by other problems.
*       Resolution: the solution to the problem.
*       Reorientation: the conclusion of the story, optional.
*       Coda: the moral lesson that we can learn from the story, optional.
Language Features:
*       The use of past simple.
*       Focus on specific and individualized participants.
*       The use of noun phrases (A beautiful princess, a huge temple).
*       The use of connectives (First, before that, then, finally).
*       The use of temporal conjunction and temporal circumstances.
*       The use of behavioral.
*       The use of action verbs (material process).
*       The use of saying verbs (verbal process).
*       The use of relational process
*       The use of thinking verbs, feeling verbs, verbs of senses (mental process).

*       The use of adverbial phrase of time and place.
